Engineering

From Central America to Asia, Europe to the Middle East, FB Heliservices has the expertise to keep our own fleet of helicopters and our customers aircraft fully maintained and flying.  We employ over 380 engineers worldwide.

COMR

A fleet of 7 Bell 212s, 35 Eurocopter AS 350s and 15 Bell 412 Griffins are maintained by FB Heliservices to EASA part 145. These helicopters are operated by the military at the DHFS, SAAVn and by the field Army in Brunei and Belize.

Gazelle Depth Support Hub (GDSH)

FB Heliservices (along with associated companies) has been supporting Army Aviation at Middle Wallop since 1963. In April 2006, the Managing Director joined with the Team Leader of the Puma / Gazelle Integrated Project Team to open the GDSH.

Approximately 60 FB Heliservices staff at the GDSH undertake all depth inspection and rectification on the UK MoD Gazelle fleet including Major Checks and the task requires an output to fly away every 11 working days.   In addition, FB Heliservices personnel in the GDSH avionic and mechanical Component Repair Sections perform a variety of ‘off-aircraft’ support activities for the Lynx, Sea King and Apache Integrated Project Teams.

Aircraft Maintenance and Storage Unit (AM&SU)

The AM&SU, based at RAF Shawbury is a Tri-Service Unit and is an integral part of each Service’s fleet management. With five dehumidified hangars and one working hangar they have experience of over 25 different aircraft types and nearly 1,000 individual aircraft. Both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft are handled and maintained to the correct schedules including annual ground runs. The AM&SU is also used as a holding unit for aircraft being withdrawn from service and earmarked for sale as well as storing reserve aircraft.

Army Historic Aircraft Flight (HAF)

The Army Historic Aircraft Flight (HAF) was formally established by the Army Board in August 1980 and aims to maintain out-of-service Army fixed wing aircraft and helicopters in flying condition for posterity and publicity.

FB Heliservices provide Engineering support to keep each aircraft flying for up to 50 hours per year.

Blue Eagles

Over many years FBH at Middle Wallop have supported the Army Air Corps Display Team – The Blue Eagles. The team consists of 4 Gazelles and a Lynx helicopter. All the aircraft are flown by service personnel but the engineering support is provided by FB Heliservices.

Assault Glider Trust

The Assault Glider Trust is a non-profit making, entirely voluntary organisation whose aim is to restore an Airspeed Horsa glider as a tribute to airborne forces.

FB Heliservices involvement with the Horsa throughout the last few years has consisted of help with various engineering aspects such as specialised welding of numerous metal fittings for the wooden airframe, refurbishment of the three original undercarriage units and provision and shaping of the perspex windscreen panels.
