Simulator
The
FAA Level D capable simulator is configured with a visual system and database
which is optimised for helicopter pilot and crew training with all the visual
cues to allow role/tactical training as well as Instrument Flying Emergencies
and Malfunctions. Our Instructors are all ex UK Military holding Certificates to
Instruct (C to I) from the UK Ministry of Defence and some are CAA qualified.

The simulator seating capacity allows for 2 pilots and 2 rearcrew / observers as
well as the onboard instructor, giving an excellent platform for Crew Resource
Management (CRM) training. It has a fully Night Vision Goggle (NVG) compatible
cockpit and visual system providing safe initial and continuation NVG training
in all light levels.
The 5 channel Harmony visual system provides 4,000 polygons and 1,000
calligraphic light points per channel, providing an extremely detailed scene
with sufficient cues and texture to allow realistic general handling, low level
and role training. The detailed database covers North Wales and the RAF Shawbury
region giving a large area capable of supporting all helicopter training
requirements, including confined areas, mountain flying and offshore. In
addition, a generic airfield can be placed outside this area and configured to
replicate the actual airport runways to enable realistic procedural flying to
other destinations. Moving models increase the realism and include other
helicopters, fixed wing, ground vehicles, an oil rig, ships and a multi-seat
liferaft with visual and homing beacons. These models can be used to practice
formation flying, avoidance, rig approaches, deck winching and other Search and
Rescue techniques.
